THE "STEREO MACROLIST" - A New Available Macro Stereo Camera

Stereo Macrolist Camera

The Realist Macro Stereo Camera is a legend among stereo cameras. It was originally designed to do only one thing: take very close-up stereo images at a distance of 4 inches, and to do this very well and with extreme simplicity.

Less than 500 Realist Macro Stereo Cameras were made, and originals have recently brought prices of up to $6,000.00.

Stereo Macrolist CameraProfessional 3-D Photographer David Burder, of 3-D Images, Ltd. in London, England, and designer of the "Burdlo" 3-D camera has put his considerable skills into designing a virtual replica of the original Realist Macro. He has recently come up with the "Stereo Macrolist".

Like the original Realist Macro, the Stereo Macrolist is based on the body of an original Stereo Realist camera. The body is professionally modified to a side-by-side 5-perforation format, and a custom new two lens panel with a single large shutter is fitted to the front.

The lenses are separated by approximately 16mm, versus 70mm in a normal Stereo Realist. Thus, images viewed in a stereo slide viewer appear almost five times larger than the original life size subject. This is the "mouse's eye view" that you would see if your eyes were close enough together to focus stereoscopically at 4 inches.

As with the original, you do not have to be a professional photographer to get good results with the Stereo Macrolist. With matched lenses, fixed apertures of about f:40, and the supplied flash and flash bracket, you simply point the distance/composition prongs at the subject and shoot. It is all balanced for common ASA 100 slide film (the original Realist Macro was set up for now harder to find ASA 25 Kodachrome), and has a greater depth of field than the original Realist Macro. (Note that one still should limit the overall depth to within a range of a few inches.)

The resulting slides are the same format as Stereo Realist slides, and may be mounted in the same types of mounts (Heat-Seal Cardboard, Albion Aluminum or RBT Plastic mounts). They may be viewed in Realist format viewers, or projected with Realist format projectors. However, the depth effect is generally much stronger than with conventional stereo cameras. You have to see the slides to believe the amazing close-up 3-D detail that is possible.

The Stereo Macrolist is being custom made in small batches of 10 at a time, and is priced at $2,500.00 -- a great value for the professional quality of the camera construction, and the amazing results that have only previously been possible with the rare and expensive Realist Macro Stereo camera.

Each camera comes with a 30-day Money-Back return policy* from Reel 3-D Enterprises, and a  One year repair warranty from David Burder. Prices and exact appearance are subject to change, based on the changing cost of component parts, and possible substitutions of similar, but different, brands of shutters and flash units. Clean and tested old Stereo Realist cameras are used as the main body component.

Serious stereographers and professionals in many fields will discover the amazing applications of this camera in Orthodonture, Pathology, Biology, Medical Photography, Crime Investigation, and Technical and Industrial inspections. Of course, simple close-ups of flowers, insects, rocks, minerals, gems, animals and other subjects of natural beauty will also be enhanced by the close-up 3-D possible with this special camera.

Burdlo 3-D Camera

Burdlo 2-Lens 3-D Camera -- A Custom built twin 35mm Full-Frame format Automatic 3-D Camera with a reduced lens base.

Burdlo 3-D CameraThe Burdlo is a custom-built 3-D camera based on the original Nimslo camera body (yielding 18 pairs on a 36 shot roll).

Please note, however, that the Burdlo viewfinder has NOT been modified, so the Burdlo will actually take an image twice as wide as what you see in the viewfinder.

Please also note, that although the Burdlo will take a 24mm x 36mm image, that, due to the position of the shutter blades, there is some vignetting at smaller apertures. For this reason the best results are obtained using ISO 100 film most of the time. ISO 400 should normally not be used outdoors, only in lower light situations. A full-frame image is only obtained at the largest shutter aperture of f/5.6.  At smaller apertures most images will need to be masked into the 24mm x 32mm to 24mm x 28mm range.

The set of included close-up lenses change both the point of sharp focus, and the point of convergence of the two lenses as follows:

+1 = 28"  /  71 cm
+2 = 18"  /  46 cm
+4 =  9"  /  23 cm
The physical quality of these cameras is "factory finished" and the results from it are as impressive as any good stereo camera. The reduced lens spacing makes it unsuitable for good scenic 3-D, but ideal for people and portraits.

Each Camera Custom-built in the UK by David Burder

Mr. Burder offers a 1 year warranty on the camera, which must be returned directly to him in England for repair or replacement.
